Welcome to my useful books page. Here I will try to show you some of the books that have helped and inspired me along my build.

Here is a book written by Jacqueline Langille, that was pretty inspiring to me as  it is a biography of a relative of mine through my father's side, Capt. Angus Walters.  He was the Captain of the famous Bluenose, from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. It tells of how he grew up as the son of a schooner Captain working the docks, to becoming one himself. and tells of the fate of the Bluenose as well.

Heres a pretty informative and helpful book, Buehlers BackYard Boat Buildng, written by George Buehler, with a lot of Ideas and Plans to build some pretty nice boats. He has a lot of great ideas for a build. And its a very good read.  I like his manner of plain shop talk. I am definetly using his  companion way hatch Idea on Therapy.

The Marlinspike Sailor is a really good book. It is written by Hervey Garrett Smith. Great f or learning traditional  and decorative nautical  knots of old, there are some pretty old salty knot applications in this book. From monkeyfists to Bell Ropes, a really good resource book

You will find this book a complete learning guide to rigging anything from a small sailboat to a large sailing yacht. The Complete Riggers Apprentice written by Brion Toss.

And since I am going to sew my own sails, I found this is a valuable addition to my book collection. The Sailmakers Apprentice, written by Emiliano Marino, contains everything you need to know to sew your own sails and everything you ever wanted to know about sails as it is also an "apprenticeship". They start you out from the beginning, with small projects to get you the feel of it, all the way through to sewing your own sails. All in all, a very informative book.

And another book written by JJ and Peter Isler, that is kind of important whether you are a novice or a pro on the water. Lot's of good tips as well as all the rules of the road so to speak. This is not really a straight read, it is more of a quick reference book. A really good book to keep aboard, it even has a waterproof quick points of sail and saftey tear out sheet.

And here are a couple Classic adventures that get the fires burning on a builder to get done with the building and on with adventure...

Treasure Island...

And Jack London's, The Cruise of the Snark, his own personal adventure on the Sailboat he built. (A very good read)

Heres another really great knot book writen by Geoffrey Budworth, that I use for most of my knotting needs, It is really informative.

Heres a fantastic book for small projects on Your boat. Written by Don Casey, This guy has some pretty ingenious ideas, I know of a few that I am going to use on my boat Therapy.

Here are a couple of fun and informative books on pirates.  The first one, Pirateology by Candlewick Press, is a fun adventure book that gives clues and facts about true pirates, and you are a pirate hunter.  The compass in the cover actually works too.

And the other Book Pirates by John Matthews is a very similar but different book. It is a lot more factual in a scrapbooking kind of way.

Here is a really excellent resource for building ships in bottles, written by Donald Hubbard, Ships in Bottles A step by step guide to a venerable Nauticle craft. (whew) I think the title says it all, anyway it helped me form some good habits for building ships in bottles.

Here are some of the really Nice book marks that My lovely Wife  Patricia made for some of My nauticle books...

More to come...
