Well I've been at it on and off, and have slowly been getting the cabin walls on, and gluing up the 2"x6"s that I biscuit joined together for the cabin roof rafters. here are a couple of pic's they also show where I have been playing with porthole locations...
thats it for right now more to come soon.
Brian.
Ok, well it's been a couple of weeks, had alot of life Taking up building time but I have gotten a few things done. I took a trip down to Charleston the other day and Had to drop in to Marine lumber supply and visit My friend Matt and get enlightened on the differant species (and prices) of Wood and what would be best for my boat, heres a couple photos...
Heres Matt hard at work. The temprature was like 107 degrees that day the whole summer has been unbelieveably hot this year

Heres some of his scrap bins where He has some killer deals on teak mahogony cherry and on and
on...
I came uppon this little sign and thought it pretty good...
He's got some pretty good lumber at reasonable prices and he was pretty good to me (only took two thirds of my wallet) he's got some pannels and boards that I thought were pretty nice, some zebra wood and some lepord wood as well heres some photos...
He gave me some really good deals on mahogony for my rails and some maple and mahogony for steering wheel parts, very cool place. Well on to my progress...
My family is in town for a visit so progress is slow but today I pressed my brother in law Harry into service and got my Rafters finished for my cabin roof, it was nice to have some help with the boat for a change Heres the rafters in place...
Thats all the photos I have for now I will post some more soon.If You want to get in touch with Matt I have a link to him in my links section.
Brian.
Well My birthday was a couple days ago and My wife gave me some good hardware for the boat for my birthday
Some Brass
Cleats,

and some cam cleats,

I got a bunch of small shackel blocks,

and last but not least a nice gimbaled compass,

It was a pretty good B'day if You ask me, in the meantime I have been building a shelf that bridges all of my gussets and bulk heads in the cabin before I install the roof I will post pic's this weekend.
Brian.
ok there were a few more things I got for the boat...
A set of red and green lights...

And some Fairleads.
ok thats al l fer now.
Brian.
Well the last Month and a half have been entirely fruitless as I've not done a thing on my boat, the last thing that I did was to round over the edges of my rafters and stained them with rosewood stain. I had a wedding, my stepson Rob got married , and then I threw my back out and have been on the floor since, I have gone back to work this week and feel I may be up to working on the boat this weekend we shall see, if so I will take some pic's...
Well I've gotten a few things accomplished recently I have been finishing up on the bulkhead to bulkhead shelf in the cabin (no pic's)
But I will get some when I get a chance to get some in the light. Anyway I made a pully block when I was hurt and did manage to get a couple photos of those...
Here is a front view of the block...
I cut the parts out of mahogany, shaped them with a drill press and a belt sander and then fine sanded and rubed with boiled linseed oil.
I even made the shieve out of some starboard I have It is made of some sort of teflon (tuff stuff), I use a hole saw on my drill and cut the shieve out then I use a long bolt and washer assembly to bolt the round plug onto. then I mounted the assembly in the drill chucks and clamped the washer in a vise and began cutting the groove in the shieve it worked out really nice. I then drilled the block and shieve together and pressed a brass pin into it...
Then I spliced a loop into a rope and braided the ends together, then I wrapped the braided loop with leather cordage...
Well thats about it for this week more later.
Brian.
Awlright, well I've been buisy all week on the boat it is good to be up and running again. I began last week working on those fore and aft port and starboard shelves going in between the bulkheads and gussets, I just have to trim them up and they will be good to go, Got off that for a couple nights because the weather was perfect to fix the companionway cut out on the rear cabin bulkhead, by but joining them with epoxy and 3" fiberglass tape. I got the idea from Paul Riccelli, and what I did was to brace the cutout piece in place and line up the edges with pieces of wood I screwed temporarily in place, then I used my grinder with a 7" wheel on it, and coved out along the seam about 1,1/2" on either side. I did this on both the cockpit and cabin sides. then I cut the fiberglass tape in half, painted epoxy on all joining surfaces and coved out arias, then I applied the 1,1/2"glass tape over the seam and wet it out, I then took a whole piece of tape and centered it in the cove so that it was below the surface of the coved out aria and wet it out as well. I waited till like midnight
untill the epoxy got set up enough but still tackey, then I added thickened epoxy (with woodflour) to fill the cove here's some pic's...
I went out there tonight and sanded on it with my belt sander and it is as smooth as glass and unbelieveably strong, I am satisfied with the results of this fiberglass and resin but joint.
. Now all I have to do is re-draw the line and cut it correctly and all will be good.
Till next time
Well just before the christmas holliday season began I got that peskey shelf installed, Then everything came to a screeching halt as the wife and I decorated the house inside and out, and then prepared for our annual christmas eve party. It is a pretty large event and quite alot of fun. I plan on getting some more done this weekend before I have to take down all the christmas stuff (clark Grizzwald has nothin' on me
)
My lovely wife gave me a great gift for the boat (for when I get it done)for christmas,A Magellan crossover GPS that does Auto, Marine, and Offroad, it is pretty awsome heres a photo of it...

I will take some photos of my progress this weekend. till then,
Brian.
------------------------------------------------
It's March 13th 2008, this Marks the two year mark of building my boat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it's been a while since I last posted. I have been somewhat buisy on the boat, well as buisy as life will allow anyway.
In between bouts of life I have been faring out the cabin aria and trying to git 'er dun
.
I used alot of thickened epoxy here and there that requires alot of Sanding and then some more
sanding.
I have been making the roof stringers, and have the rafters ready to go, I have the shelves and gussets about as fair as I can get them "good enough for my future cabinets". And soon to get epoxyed and Painted. The roof will be going on next as soon as I epoxy and screw the stringers in place.
I have also begun constructing my wheel. I have all the parts cut out and soon to be assebled. I will get some pictures of it soon in the meantime here are a couple of pictures I took today 3/16/'08.
I Plan on making pull out bins with styles below the shelves, and galleyrails along the shelves.
It looks rough, but it is sanded quite smoothe. Once painted it will look uniform.
Notice my great, messy staining job on gussets and pannel joiners. it's alright because the messy arias will be painted over.
Thats it for now. More to follow.
Happy St. Patricks day.

(a work in progress)
